Having your vehicle broken into is one of the worst things any driver can go through, and if you’ve had your car broken into before you know how stressful it can be. Between the anxiety of having your property violated and the financial burden of having to take care of any repairs or replacing stolen items, it’s definitely not something you want to go through again, and you’re probably looking for ways to stop it from happening in the first place. And while there’s no way to guarantee that your car will never be broken into, there are some steps you can take to better protect your car and yourself!
Be Mindful of Where You Park
Where you park can offer you a fair amount of protection against car break-ins. The best place to park your car would be in a secure and covered area, like a garage or parking deck that’s way from the street. If you only have access to open lots or street parking, try and park in the best-lit area that’s closest to your destination.
Hide and Cover Up Your Valuables
If potential thieves can’t see anything worth taking in your car, they’re less likely to try and break in! And while it’s always best to have valuables on you, there are times when you’re going to need to store things in your car. So make sure any valuables are safely packed away and stored in either your backseat or trunk away from view, and cover them with a blanket or jacked for extra protection.
Lock Your Doors and Roll Up Your Windows
You’d be surprised how many vehicle break-ins occur due to unlocked car doors or rolled-down windows allowing easy access into someone’s car! And simply making sure your vehicle is securely locked will prevent many potential break-ins, as many thieves won’t want to go through the trouble of breaking a window. So make sure you double and triple check your locks to make sure your vehicle is safe!
